What a nice surprise to get the Baylor Line in the mail and see the photo of the old trestle bridge across Waco Creek! (winter issue, “Down the Years”).
My son is a freshman at Baylor now and probably often crosses the new bridge for his classes in the Baylor Sciences Building, where he’s majoring in physics.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the “Army Strong” article about the new Army ROTC program at Baylor (fall 2009 issue).
I was very proud when I heard last year that my alma mater would be standing up an Army ROTC unit, since I am a graduate of both Baylor and the U.S. Army ROTC program. However, the statement in the article that “next summer will be Baylor’s first time to attend LDAC,” referring to ROTC’s Leadership Development and Assessment Course, is actually not totally accurate.
While Baylor hasn’t officially ever sent a cadet to LDAC, there has been at least one Baylor Bear to attend and graduate LDAC. I attended LDAC in the summer of 2006 as a cadet from Tarleton State-Central Texas’s Army ROTC unit in Killeen. While at Baylor from 2005 to 2006, I was simultaneously enrolled as a cadet at the ROTC program in Killeen because Baylor didn’t have an Army ROTC program at the time.
It would have been nice to have had an Army ROTC at Baylor when I was there, but I am ecstatic that there is one now since it will produce more Baylor alumni in the Army Officer Corps.
