Where Are They Now: Brandon Birmingham

By Jerry Hill

Brandon Birmingham (pictured then, left, and now, right) is living a life most of us can only watch on TV. As a lead prosecutor in the Dallas district attorney's office, the former Baylor tennis player has tried a wide range of cases, from driving under the influence to a high-profile murder committed by a member of the Mexican mafia.

"There's never a dull moment," said Birmingham, who has been with the DA's office since May 2002. "I started out doing misdemeanors and DUIs, and now I do murder. It's been everything I could hope for. I've really found a calling here. There's definitely a sense of satisfaction from doing the right thing."

As part of Baylor tennis coach Matt Knoll's first team in 1997, Birmingham played a key role in the program's development. "Every year is a chapter, and we were sort of the first chapter," said Birmingham, who was 4-12 in singles and 9-8 in doubles as a senior in 1999, when Baylor reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time.

After receiving his BA in political science in 1999, Birmingham graduated from Houston's South Texas College of Law in 2001. He lives in Dallas with his wife, Carrie, and three-year-old daughter, Madeleine, and said he has thought about going into private practice or running for office.
