Funds for KidsBy Meg Cullar
During the 2008-09 academic year, four Baylor students received a
scholarship set up by the Baylor Alumni Association for children of
alumni. The fund was originally established in 1995, and the alumni
association contributes a portion of each annual membership purchased
by alumni to the fund.
After building up the endowment amount, the fund has generated
enough interest for the dispersion of scholarships for several years
now. Since 2005, the Baylor Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship Fund
has awarded more than $60,000 to deserving students.
Recipients of the scholarship are chosen by the University
Scholarship Committee based upon need and merit, with a preference
given to children of Baylor alumni. According to Baylor financial aid
officials, that preference has always been honored. To be considered
for the scholarship, students must fill out a FAFSA and note on their
Baylor application that at least one of their parents is a Baylor alum.
