Back to School: Student View

The question: Who is your favorite Baylor professor and why?

Chad Frieje
May ’09 graduate

“My favorite is Dr. [William] Petty in entrepreneurial finance. I’ve had a lot of professors who really care about students, but he not only reached out during class, he had us all over to his house, he had us into his office one by one to talk, and really was a good example of a man of God who was successful in business. I learned a ton in his class, probably more than in any other class.”

Orhue Odaro

“I’ll go with my biology and lab teacher, Dr. [Marty] Harvill. He’s so funny. Sometimes he invites us to eat with his family. And he knows how to explain stuff pretty well. He says, ‘What you read in the book is just like this other thing.’ And you’re like, ‘Oh, the book should have said that.’”

Bindia Patel
Senior

“My favorite professor would have to be Dr. [Derek] Dodson in the religion department. He’s really respectful, he’s really funny, and I think he explains things in a way that’s easy to understand. He’s just such a character; he’s a hoot.”

Sara Schlesinger

“Dr. Darin Davis in philosophy is my favorite. He is really inspiring, and he really cares 100 percent about his students. I took an introductory philosophy class from him: ‘Happiness and the Moral Life.’ He didn’t just teach what the book said. He also worked in the religion behind Baylor and tried to relate the topics of all of the crazy philosophers to us.”
