I love Baylor but am growing very weary of all of these BAA e-mails. I think you are alienating more alums than you are persuading. You guys just figure it out.

It is difficult to quantify the degree of damage that the infighting between the Board of Regents and the Baylor Alumni Association has done to our beloved Baylor. It saddens my heart for all of those who have gone before us, and most especially, for the students now in attendance. What a terrible example is being set for them. Our interim president is the co-author of a book tilted, in part, . . "How God's Grace Works Through Imperfect Relationships." It is not too late to set aside the seemingly over-inflated egos that have fueled this "fire" and focus on what He would have us do.

During all of the controversy that has developed between the Baylor Board of Regents and the Baylor Alumni Association, several important questions have not been answered.

Do the stake holders of Baylor (faculty and staff, alumni, students, donors) have easy access to members of the Board of Regents and the alumni association’s board by way of published telephone numbers, e-mail, and/or postal addresses?

In the spirit of openness, shouldn’t the Board of Regents publish a complete agenda prior to each meeting (including subject matter of each executive session)?

Does the Faculty Senate make presentations directly to the Board of Regents? the councils of deans? the Baylor Alumni Association? the Student Congress? the staff and employee group? the donors? If not, why not?

Because of the Baptist heritage of congregational government, shouldn’t a spirit of openness be practiced in Baptist institutions, especially at Baylor, by the Board of Regents?

Shouldn’t nominations for members of Baylor’s Board of Regents include recommendations from Baylor’s stakeholders (i.e., faculty, alumni, students, staff and employees, donors)? Wouldn’t that be the best way to practice openness and accountability?

In order to move forward progressively, will the Board of Regents change their perceived “control” mindset by immediately making provisions for active representation on the board from the above-mentioned stakeholders?

Will the Board of Regents make available publicly the minutes of their meetings?

Should the Board of Regents’ policy about closed executive sessions be published and examined? Should the number of these sessions be limited? Would this help to build trust?

If these questions are not answered in positive, results-producing ways, would there be further cause to question the accountability of the Board of Regents?
