Distinguished Alumni Awards

The presentation of the Distinguished Alumni Awards--the most prestigious of the alumni association's tributes--has been an annual tradition for more than forty years. Each year at a black-tie banquet, the Baylor Alumni Association recognizes Baylor graduates for outstanding achievements in their respective fields.

The first class of recipients in 1965 included businessman Earl C. Hankamer and Texas Instruments researcher Gordon Teal. Many Baylor graduates have followed in their footsteps to earn the award, representing excellence in finance, science and technology, law, politics, and education.

However, the scope of honorees is not limited to traditional professions. In 2004, linguist Betty Boyd Welch was honored for her work as a Bible translator, and California actress Carole Cook received the award in 1995. Mike Singletary accepted the honor for his career as a professional athlete-turned-motivational speaker in 2000.

These names and the dozens of others that grace the roster of Distinguished Alumni Award recipients are a testament to the diversity Baylor graduates' gifts and talents.
