Externship ProgramWith a burgeoning externship program, which was established in the summer of 2004, the alumni association has increased its membership base and provided valuable networking opportunities--as well as some extra cash--to willing and able students at the same time.
"It's a new kind of program, and we're the pioneers out there," said Beth Michaelis, assistant director for alumni association programs and marketing. The program, she explained, employs current Baylor students and graduates, who contact Baylor grads in their own area to become members of the Baylor Alumni Association.
Externs earn commissions on the memberships they sell, but that's not their only benefit. "They have a network of Baylor University alums at their fingertips," said Michaelis. "They're also able to establish friendships, business networks, and community contacts in the area in which they live."
The job is ideal for new graduates who haven't yet secured a job, or for people who want some extra money or have some free time on their hands. For as little as five hours a week, externs contact people from a list supplied by the association. Those contacts can be made in one of three ways--phone calls, e-mails, or direct mail pieces--depending on the extern's preference.
"There are so many people who are interested in supporting the Baylor Alumni Association," said Michaelis. "And there are so many opportunities with this externship program that we haven't even touched on yet."
If you are interested in the externship program, contact Beth Michaelis.
