WHEREAS, the Baylor Alumni Association has served
for more than 150 years as a means for Baylor alumni to join together in
support of Baylor and has honored its pledge on behalf of Baylor alumni to
“maintain, defend, and support, by all means in their power, the original
design of the founders of the Institution, to make it a true educational
establishment of the highest grade”; and
WHEREAS, R. W. “Buddy” Rees ’57 was a valued
member of the Board of Directors of the Baylor Alumni Association, building
upon a lifelong commitment to and involvement with Baylor University, his
beloved alma mater, and was serving in this capacity at the time of his death
on November 19, 2009; and
WHEREAS, R. W. “Buddy” Rees had a distinguished
thirty-year career in the food industry, retiring as president of Charitto
Foods, and as such served as a wonderful ambassador for Baylor in his
professional circles; and
WHEREAS, R. W. “Buddy” Rees was an outstanding
member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, contributing his time and
talents as deacon chair, a member of numerous committees, and a youth Sunday
school teacher for twenty-five years; and
WHEREAS, R. W. “Buddy” Rees proved, through his
values and actions, that Baylor alumni are powerful forces for good in the
world, as particularly demonstrated by his mission work in Cuba, where he was
instrumental in establishing a seminary, founding many churches, and leading
many to Christ;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of the Baylor Alumni
Association celebrates the life of R. W. “Buddy” Rees, expresses its gratitude
for his many contributions to the Baylor family, and extends its condolences to
the Rees family upon the loss of a man who meant the world to so many people.
